The Curious Finch is an urban agricultural plot and educational garden in Amsterdam, focused on growing food and growing gardeners. In addition to vegetables, herbs, flowers, mushrooms and fruit (in small urban spaces) we emphasize learning about different techniques for growing organic edibles, with specialized workshops and dedicated garden plots. The garden is located within Volkstuinpark Sloterdijkermeer, in Amsterdam’s Westerpark. The educational garden is divided into small plots, each demonstrating different urban growing techniques, including: biodynamic farming, permaculture, seed saving, composting, a herb bed, wild plants, edible flowers, companion planting and heritage (forgotten) crops.
Visitors are always welcome and will receive a free guided tour around the garden, with an explanation of the different plants and methods used in various beds. For example: fall/winter vegetables, companion planting, composting (including hugelkultur or with worms), green manures, making liquid fertilizer from wild plants, heritage plants, herbs, the importance of bees and other insects, seed selection and saving, edible flowers, and much more.
We hold regular workshops open to the public, and can organize more extensive tours and activities for larger groups (children and adults). Please contact us (firstname.lastname@example.org), visit us on Facebook, or see our agenda for details.
